Not-so-serious ladies serving 'Serious Coffee' at Café Nelligen

Sert and Alison

Your "Riverbend" Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen but if you get sick of cooking, there's always Café Nelligen where Sert, ably assisted by Alison, can cook up a storm in Thai food, pizzas, and fish 'n' chips.

Of course, they also serve cakes and coffees and supply you with fresh bread and milk and the latest newspapers (or you can save on the newspapers by just listening to their gossip ☺).

ANZAC Day morning

The mist, still thick on the river, promises a hot and sunny day.

Another day in Paradise in God's Own Country.

We're so lucky! Lest we forget!

In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia fair.

First the march ...

... then the Service

... then the feed.

In downtown "New York", just 8 kilometres away, the turnout was a lot bigger as shown in this video clip.

For more photos of our low-key local celebrations - and to meet at least half the population of Nelligen - click through this gallery of pictures (the best are towards the end, especially # 51 of 68 ☺ )

Special offer to members of Curves in Cowra

The Riverbend Fitness Club

Our guests and friends Carmel and Laurie still remember their stay at "Riverbend" Cottage and have just emailed us:

"Peter, I have been promoting Riverbend to my members at Curves so you may get some inquiries, hope this is ok with you. Cheers Carmel"

That's quite ok, Carmel, especially if they're all as nice as you and Laurie!

And you'll be pleased to know that the Riverbend Fitness Club, which is equipped with a rowing machine and a stationary exercise bike, extends free membership to all members of Curves in Cowra.

But, as they say in the commercial, there's more: we also throw in a free Balinese massage by Lanny, a professional massage therapist from Indonesia now residing in the Bay (and, yes, we do have an upholstered massage table with one of those cut-outs for your face so you won't get a broken nose as well as a massage).

Is there anything better than a good workout followed by a soothing Balinese massage while watching the ducks on the pond from inside the Riverbend Fitness Club?

Maybe there is but you'd have to go as far as Bali to find it!

We go the extra mile for our guests

Well, 500 metres, to be precise, which is the maximum signal strength of the BAUHN Wi-Fi Range Extender which we have installed at "Riverbend" so that you can still browse the net or read your emails while lying in a hammock or keeping cool in the HAUS WIN.

Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend

Laurie and Carmel, Padma and Peter

All good things must come to an end and our guests - and new friends - Laurie and Carmel left this morning. Their guestbook entry suggests that they liked it here - but only just! ☺

Dear Padma & Peter

What a fantastic holiday we have had, really good weather, lots of flatheads and the very best hosts we have ever come across.

You have both been fantastic and have gone out of your way to make our visit special!

Peter, I'm sure my brother Laurie will be looking forward to chatting with you again. Thank you so much for making him and Jenny welcome. They had a ball!

Keep up the practice. We look forward to hearing some new songs next visit. You should be very proud of your play-by-numbers system. It is working well.

Padma, what a marvellous cook you are. All those lovely tasty meals and treats. They were a lovely surprise. You have a wonderful personality. Never change; we love you just the way you are! You and Peter make a great team!!

Thank you again and we both look forward to our next visit with you.

All the best
Carmel & Laurie (the "Fish Whisperer")
Cowra, N.S.W.

P.S. If you have any idea on how to avoid going home, let us know. You live in PARADISE!

The Fish Whisperer

Our guest Laurie had some pretty good luck with his fishing: bream, flathead, trevally - he caught them all during his ten-day stay at "Riverbend" Cottage.

This morning, with only two more days to go, he's quite happy to sit on the jetty in the warm sunshine and just talk to them ☺

We've got (fan) mail

Isn't it nice to do what you enjoy doing, getting paid for it, and then receiving a 'thank you' note like this?

Dear Peter, Padma, Malty & Rover,

How fortunate we found "Riverbend" for our get-away from the city. We had a delightful time, waking to the birds and watching the mist rise off the water each day.

Thank you so much for your hospitality; your generosity was overwhelming. We thoroughly enjoyed your culinary treats, Padma; you are a wonderful cook. Peter, you are a wealth of information and it was great to hear of all your adventures and life experiences.

Many thanks also for including us in your activities and delighting us with some "Aussie" culture with the screening of some legendary "Aussie" movies at Cinema Paradiso. It was all great fun!

"Riverbend" is on our list for a return visit.

Thanks again. Till next time,
Best Wishes
Margaret & Clayton

We have rebuilt the treehouse, bigger, better and more beautiful than before!

So when the world's worries drive you up a tree, come to "Riverbend" Cottage where you can sit high above the river in our shady treehouse and watch the boats - or time - go by!

It's been a late night at "Riverbend" Cottage

Lauriie and Carmel and Laurie

Four guitars, one ukulele, and two button accordions kicked up quite a noise when our guests Laurie and Carmel, their friends Laurie and Jenny, and the two of us (to say nothing of the dogs Malty & Rover) got together in the "Library" for a Country & Western (and everything else) singalong. A few bottles of beer, a bottle of red, and a bit of "Jägermeister" lubricated the voices well past 11 o'clock.
